Celebrating 2 Years of Threshold!

TACo launched!

We are excited to share that Threshold Network’s second major cryptographic service – Threshold Access Control, affectionately dubbed “TACo” – is now live and featured on the staker dashboard! TACo enables end-to-end encrypted data sharing and communication, removing the need to trust a centralized authority or entity who might unilaterally deny service or even surreptitiously decrypt private end-user data.

You can now authorize stake to the TACo app, bond your TACo operator address (generated during node setup) to your provider address (your wallet for compensation), and optionally choose a token lock-up duration to receive the corresponding yield bonus – note bonus deadline is Jan 15th. Please see the announcement in Discord for full details and links.

NuCypher – the team behind TACo – is hiring a Solutions Engineer to own & improve the taco-web API & library. Developers with experience in Typescript, React, React Native & smart contract libraries (e.g. viem, Ethers.js) should check out the job description.

NETWORK & GOVERNANCE UPDATES

Legacy NU & KEEP Staking support has ended, per Threshold Improvement Proposal 63. See the Transition Guide for Legacy Stakers for all of the important information you need to make a seamless transition to Threshold Staking.

RFC 12 Implementation is an important discussion about tBTC development. Two new proposals are actively being discussed on the Threshold forum to grow the tBTC beta operator set:

Contractor role for a full-stack developer. TIP-68 proposes that Threshold DAO fund a Senior Full-Stack Developer role with a front-end focus, to be filled by Evandro Saturnino, who led UI/UX development for thUSD. With ongoing expansion of Threshold Network’s projects, there’s a need for robust front-end development coupled with reliable back-end integration. The role aims to enhance the application’s usability, design, and back-end integration for the Threshold projects.

December staking rewards are claimable in the Threshold dashboard. Please note that December was the last month for PRE rewards distribution, as TACo has superseded the Proxy Re-encryption app. Stakers are invited to authorize TACo in the dashboard, and per TIP-62 to incentivize longer staking commitments at genesis, stakers can choose extended token lock-up periods and receive a commensurate bonus. This deadline to commit to a token lock-up extension is January 15th, 2024 (UTC 00:00).

AROUND THE DAO

With the tBTC fee holiday in full swing, it’s a great time to see the Solana community rallying around Threshold. Matt Luongo, CEO and Founder of Thesis, joined the Validated and Solfate podcasts to chat about Bitcoin on Solana.

Beefy Finance offered a limited-time boost of Optimism’s OP tokens for the Velodrome tBTC / WBTC pool.

Threshold had a presence at ETH Global Istanbul and showcased TACo, including in the hackathon:

NuCypher’s David Nunez did a demo and code review for TACo (Threshold Access Control) for ETH Global Istanbul:
